COSY
Christmas market. In the main square (Piața Sfatului), next to the Christmas tree. Here people can
buy home-made sweets, food, gifts, hang out with family, friends and drink hot
wine. M-m-m...
At this time Piața
Sfatului is filled with smiles of people, smokes of hot
wine, lights of shining decorations, sounds of Christmas melodies (well, it might
be quite controversial, not all the people love those melodies). In evenings
kids are gathering around Christmas tree or next to Coca-cola caravan to sing some songs and get some small presents.
Market next to the Black church by Johannes
Honterus school pupils. On the way to office to stop for some 10 minutes in
bazaar prepared by pupils might make the day. Cheerful talks around, many tables
crowded with colourful hand-made decorations, gifts, cards. Many children selling
their or their mothers made cakes, biscuits, chocolates, tea and coffee.
If you have no idea what to give to
your lovely fellow for Christmas - creative, lovely and quite cheap solution can
be found in these markets.
I have in mind Strada Republicii, of
course! From the end of November lamps started to be hanged above the street and
that made me to be curious how it might look like. Few weeks those
lamps were hanging with no light, while in 1
moment during St. Nicolas day (on 6th of December) Strada
Republicii was illuminated!
To walk in evening or in night time
under those lights feeling is nice. Why? It feels that the sky is so close or
it feels that you are walking in a half kilometre length room with fancy light installation
above.
SOUND
While sitting in the evenings at cafeterias, you can meet some groups of people who are singing Colindă songs. Those groups might be very various. Some of them are singing like in opera and look very sophisticated. Songs are mostly about Jesus birth. Some of those groups are making not always harmonious sound with accordions, drums, trumpets, mostly they are wearing colourful cloathes. But in both ways you can't say that its disturbing. It happens 1 time per year around Christmas, it brings more colours and more sound.
And, of course, choir music concerts in the Black church should be mentioned. The ticket to these concersts costs 10-15 RON, but it is almost impossible to get the ticket just before the event. they are sold out few days before. And if you are lucky and you get to the concert, be sure to feel glory inside you and get lots of possitive rest. Huge church is filled by students choir and small orchestra music. Here you can experience Christmas in more intelegent, or in more deeper way. Well, this depends on your beliefs and religions, anyway you might get thrilled by nice sound of music in such a big space as it is in the biggest Romania church.
